Our purpose and vision

The purpose of the East Sussex Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB) is to help and safeguard adults with care and support needs from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Our vision is for all agencies to work together to:

  • enable East Sussex residents to live free from abuse and neglect
  • promote the message that safeguarding is everybody’s business

We do this by:

  • Gaining assurance that local safeguarding arrangements are in place, following the Care Act and its statutory guidance.
  • Ensuring that practice follows the six Making Safeguarding Personal principles, is person-centred and outcome-focussed.
  • Working collaboratively with our partner agencies to prevent abuse and neglect, where possible
  • Ensuring timely and proportionate responses to abuse and neglect.
  • Striving for continuous improvement in safeguarding practice.
  • Supporting our partners to embed learning from local and national Safeguarding Adults Reviews, other learning reviews and multi-agency audits.

Core duties

Under the Care Act 2014, every SAB must fulfil three core duties.
